video-es | The Birth of Modern Taíno / El nacimiento del taíno moderno

Presentation language: Spanish with English & French subtitles

About the presentation:
In 2018, the revitalization of the Taíno language began with the creation of Tainonaíki. Created by the Puerto Rican hyperpolyglot, Javier A. Hernández, this modern variant of the language allowed us to speak the language in complete sentences for the first time in 500 years. During this interview, Javier explains the 9-year-long process he undertook to reconstruct this language. We will learn a bit about the simplified grammatical structure and the loan words that were incorporated from sister languages. Javier also gives us a sneak peek at the incredible projects he is developing for Tainonaíki students.

About Javier A. Hernández:
Javier A. Hernández, author of the "Primario Básico del Taíno‑Borikenaíki" (2018), holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and International Relations from Florida International University; he has a master's degree in International Communication from American University and a master's degree in Education from Lehman College.
