video-es | Language and Culture in Education / El idioma y la cultura en la educación

Presentation language: Spanish with English subtitles

About the presentation:
Culturally responsive pedagogy (CRP) must go beyond celebrating cultural holidays, arts, heroes and food; it must create awareness around different cultures, language, power relationships, and address discrimination, misconceptions and racism. Developing content, applying restorative circles, using scaffolding and instruction that embrace students’ cultures and experiences takes time. This is one of the best strategies to help Children preserve their identity. Schools can serve as centers to rediscover our identities, proud descendants of the historic indigenous peoples of the Caribbean, the Taínos.
