enlace | Free Bilingual Picture Books in 1001 Languages

On www.bilingual-picturebooks.org everyone can download picture books in any possible language combination for free. The project aims to produce and multiply high-quality books in endangered and minority languages free from economic constraints. Children and young people from all over the world can write and illustrate stories and add them to the website. A network of volunteers can translate the stories in as many languages as possible - we are always happy about new translators.
Outlined as a global platform, the project has gained international contributions in the past years and has become a network of individuals and organisations involved in multilingual and transcultural literature and language preservation. Yet, it is in a process of constant development and adaptation to the various needs of practicioners and initiatives. The aim is the creation of a space and an audience for a multitude of children’s voices, stories and languages.

This collaborative platform was established to enable the community of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (IDIL 2022–2032) to share events, activities, and resources. The content published on the platform is the responsibility of registered users and does not commit the Secretariat of the Decade (UNESCO) and/or the Members of the Global Task Force for Making a Decade of Action for Indigenous Languages. Please note that the platform has been inactive since February 2025 and no longer accepts new uploads. While work is underway to provide an updated solution, the Secretariat of IDIL 2022–2032 remains available for any inquiries at: indigenous.languages@unesco.org.
