Hishinlai’ Peter learned her endangered ancestral language, Gwich’in, as an adult. She has taught adults at UAF since 2002, and earned her Ph.D. with a dissertation on Adult Ancestral Language Learning and Effects on Identity. In this special presentation Hishinlai’ will share an inside look at how adult students learn Gwich’in in her classroom.

Polyglot Indonesia Jakarta Chapter presents the Language Exchange Meetup activities series entitled "Langlang Buana Nusantara!" In the seventh meetup of this series, we discussed the language and culture in West, Central, and South Kalimantan province in an activity entitled "A Cluster of Islands with Thousands of Culture" held on May 12, 2019. In collaboration with Forum Mahasiswa Kalimantan Barat UI (FORMAKARA UI), Harati UI, and Paguyuban Mahasiswa Banua Kalimantan Selatan UI (PAMBAKAL UI), we present unique facts about the three provinces and some of their ethnic language.

During this event, the UNESCO Office for Central America will launch its plan for the Preservation of Indigenous Languages as well as the Framework Road Maps and Actions Plans for Panama, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua. These strategic documents are focused on the promotion, presevation and use of the indigenous languages and will place special emphasis on access to information and the use of technology.

The event will faciliate a conversation on the importance of protecting the indigenous languages and generating recomendations for the development of a national road map and action plan focused on the preservation, promotion of and use of the languages. The event will place emphasis on bilingual education, access to information, the use of technology. The importance of developing measures and policies which will encourage young people to take interest in learning the languages will be one of the key elements in these discussions.

Le festival éco-mobilisation revient en 2019 pour aborder la thématique : « L’Amazonie, ou le déracinement du monde ». Il se déroulera du 5 au 8 septembre 2019 à Bordeaux au sein de l'écosystème Darwin. Ce festival à la programmation hybride, qui combine arts, musiques et sciences, accueille chaque année des experts, des personnalités de renom au sein d’un cycle de conférences parrainé par des ONG phares et des grands témoins.

The Indigenous Fellowship Programme was launched in 1997 by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in the context of the first International Decade of the World's Indigenous People. The aim of the programme is to give indigenous persons the opportunity to gain knowledge on the UN system and mechanisms dealing with human rights issues in general and indigenous issues in particular. Trained participants are better equipped to assist their organisations and communities in protecting and promoting their rights. This training programme is available in 4 languages: English, Spanish, French and Russian.

GT14 – AGRICULTURA, SABERES E LÍNGUAS INDÍGENAS Ementa: O debate e o aprofundamento das discussões sobre o modo de vida, os saberes e línguas das sociedades indígenas brasileiras sempre tiveram um espaço importante nos debates acadêmicos especialmente para aqueles/as pesquisadores/as que trabalham com a temática mais ampla de diversidade. No Brasil existem cerca de 300 sociedades indígenas falantes de mais de 240 línguas diferentes, toda essa diversidade expressa uma riqueza sem igual que vem sendo estudada por uma variedade grande de programas de pesquisa espalhados por todo o território nacional. Conhecer o atual estado das pesquisas e os principais recortes teóricos que orientam esses estudos é de extrema importância para quem estuda a temática indígena em todas as suas dimensões. Por outro lado, promover um espaço de debates sobre a diversidade desses modos de vida tão diversos é central para que se possa refletir sobre novas possibilidades para construção de alternativas aos modelos de desenvolvimento social e econômico, tão predatórios, produzidos no interior das sociedades ocidentais. Debates sobre categorias como Bem Viver indígena, o uso de recursos naturais, territorialidade, serão muito bem-vindos ao GT.
