The Summer School, “Indigenous and Minority Languages: Living History and Opportunities for the Future” is organized in collaboration with the Americas Research Network (ARENET), the Institute for the Study of the Americas of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Center for Research and Practice in Cultural Continuity at the University of Warsaw "Faculty of Artes Liberales", the Council of American Overseas Research Centers, and the Smithsonian Institution. The summer school will take place at the UNC Chapel Hill Global Education Center July 1-12, 2019. An integral part of the workshop includes a two-day visit to the Cherokee Eastern Band Indian Community July 6-7, 2019.

Doyon Foundation Language Revitalization staff present two of their new online language learning modules - Han and Gwich'in. They will discuss the technical and collaborative methods required to create the resources and demonstrate their use for the audience, encouraging language learners to access and share the language learning tools.

The United Nations General Assembly’s mandate to UNESCO supports the development of regional events that will bring together international stakeholders and contribute to an ‘Indigenous Peoples’ Languages Outcome Document’, which will be considered by UNESCO and the UN General Assembly in late 2019. With this aim in mind, a Regional Meeting for North America and the Arctic will be held on the margins of HELISET TŦE SḰÁL – ‘Let the Languages Live’: International Indigenous Language Conference taking place from June 24 to 26 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Participants in the UNESCO regional meeting will also be able to participate in the events of the HELISET TŦE SḰÁL conference.

El proyecto tiene como principal objetivo fomentar el interés por el aprendizaje de la cultura guaraní y sus aspectos socioculturales y linguisticos, con la posibilidad de ampliar y transmitir estos saberes en el contexto de la Universidad de la Integracion Latinoamerica UNILA, extrapolándolos a profesores, estudiantes nacionales y extranjeros y miembros de la comunidad de Foz de Iguaçu y región, con el fin de contribuir al entendimiento de las culturas indígenas, para superar las cuestiones de prejuicio y el desconocimiento de su riqueza cultural, a través de la lengua como vinculo de acercamiento intercultural.

The Forum allowed for presentation of Innovative initiatives of language revitalization and preservation and served as a venue for discussions about the role of language activists vis-a-vis formal educational system. Language activists had a chance to learn from each other and plane future activities of the Civic Network for Preservation and Revitalization of Indigenous Languages.

When a community loses its language as is the case with the Tjwa in Zimbabwe, it also loses its cultural identity. For the Tjwa, this was a result of forced assimilation and because of that, Tjwao, the language of the San in Zimbabwe has only a dozen fluent speakers remaining who speak this language and there are no younger speakers at the moment.
