The results of the Interregional campaign “Dictation in Karelian and Veps languages” have been summed up in the Republic of Karelia
The action is timed to coincide with the Day of Karelian and Veps Writing and took place from April 19 to 26, 2024.
This year, the main organizer of the action was the Vepsian Culture Society with the support of the Ministry of National and Regional Policy of the Republic of Karelia. The event was supported by the Grant Fund of the Head of the Republic of Karelia.
The dictation texts were devoted to family traditions and values, because the current year has been declared the Year of the Family by the President of the Russian Federation.
The campaign was launched on April 19 at the PetrSU Scientific Library, where more than 70 people tested their writing skills in Karelian and Veps languages: students and schoolchildren of educational organizations, representatives of scientific and cultural institutions, public associations and businesses, and the media in national languages.
The main platform brought together those for whom Karelian and Veps are native languages, and those who are just starting to learn the languages of the indigenous peoples of Karelia.
In total, the dictation in 2024 was written by more than 1,200 people at 65 sites organized in the Republic of Karelia, Tver, Leningrad, Vologda and Murmansk regions.
