Sakhalin residents took part in the IV All-Russian Ethnodictation in the languages of indigenous ethnic groups

On February 21, on the basis of the Sakhalin Regional Folk Art Center, within the framework of the International Mother Tongue Day, the correspondence stage of the IV All-Russian Ethnodictation in the languages of the indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Federation was held.

The event is held in order to attract the attention of the Russian population to the history and language of the indigenous ethnic groups living on its territory.

The participants of the ethnodictation were 15 people – representatives of the indigenous peoples of the North of the Sakhalin region and residents interested in their culture. They tried their hand at writing a text in the Nivkh language. Professor of the Institute of the Peoples of the North, Candidate of Philological Sciences Lyudmila Gashilova read Vladimir Sangi’s fairy tale “Kykyk”.

The correspondence stage of the All-Russian Ethnodictation in the languages of indigenous ethnic groups is held annually at the OCST with the support of the Regional Ministry of Culture and Archival Affairs.
