Ivan Sandrin became the winner for the best author’s project in the field of folklore and languages of the indigenous peoples of the North

According to the results of the regional competition among young people, Ivan Sandrin from Muzhi became the winner for the best author’s project in the field of folklore and languages of the indigenous peoples of the North.

Ivan Sandrin is the author of the “Khanty mons” comics in the Khanty language based on national fairy tales collected by his first teacher, folklorist Roman Kelchin.

First Ivan introduced his project at a grant competition of the “Russian North” Forum in December 2020. The edition of 300 copies was published in 2022.

This is not the first initiative by Ivan Sandrin to preserve and promote the language of his people. In 2020, he released an audio collection called “Tales of the Khanty People”. It includes five compositions and their translations into Russian.

As a result of the competition, he received an award of 50,000 rubles.

The competition is devoted to the International Decade of Indigenous Languages and the Year of the Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia.
