HIGA! 2023: Summit of Young Speakers from Minoritized Languages

The key to the future of minority languages will be that new generations want to revitalize them. Also, networking between different language communities allows sharing experience and knowledge and the creation of networks of cooperation.

Bearing this in mind, HIGA is the Summit of Young Speakers of Minoritized Languages and aims to create a network of young language revitalizers from all over the world, after five days of activities in the Basque Country.  HIGA gathers more than 75 young language activists and the activities organized are as follows: workshops on language revitalization and activism, creation of networking projects on language revitalization, team building activities, cultural events, etc.  It is also a University of the Basque Country Summer School, which also provides an academic background to the event.

The fourth edition will be held in July 2023 and preparations have already begun. Although HIGA is originally an initiative from the Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council, we have had more support lately and, for example, the Basque Government has provided us a great support.
