Legends about the heroes-narts are considered the common property of the culture of the indigenous peoples of the North Caucasus. In the folklore of the Circassians, this is a folk heroic epic, the central plots of which retain a direct connection with ancient mythology. It presents both prose tales, simple in form, like mythological tales, and lyrical-epic narratives that are very perfect in artistic terms, which were performed to the accompaniment of a musical instrument and with choral accompaniment. The core of the epic is formed by stories about heroic deeds, fights, the fight against mythical creatures, obtaining the good needed by society, the introduction of new humanistic traditions, etc.
The epic, Nart heritage greatly and positively influenced all subsequent stages in the development of Adyghe poetry and literature in general. Obviously, the authors of historical and heroic songs were the first to experience the impact of this powerful artistic and philosophical system, who, when characterizing their heroes, often refer to the Nart authorities and in constructing the plot and composition follow the artistic techniques characteristic of the epic (for example, songs and poems about Aidamirkan and etc.). As a result, a large number of songs and poems were created, which were based on the material of genuine historical events and on the display of the fate and heroic deeds of a real historical person. Historical and heroic songs enriched national poetry with the breadth and power of the epic depiction of the corresponding era and the revelation of the fate of legendary personalities. Undoubtedly, the genre of ode and epic poem has significantly strengthened its positions, expanded the boundaries of national artistic thinking. Perhaps, between the Nart epic and historical-heroic works there was a significant artistic layer that disappeared in the cataclysms of history; perhaps somewhere there are traces of it – an idea that makes even more relevant the idea of systematic training of specialists in the study of the artistic heritage of the people.

Эпическое, нартское наследие много и позитивно повлияло на все последующие этапы развития адыгейской поэзии и литературы в целом. Очевидно, первыми воздействие этой мощной художественно-философской системы испытали авторы историко-героических песен, которые при характеристике своих героев часто ссылаются на нартские авторитеты и в построении сюжета и композиции следуют художественным приемам, характерным для эпоса (напр., песни и поэмы об Айдамиркане и др.). В результате было создано большое количество песен и поэм, которые строились на материале подлинных исторических событий и на показе судьбы и героических свершений реального исторического лица. Историко-героические песни обогатили национальную поэзию широтой и мощью эпического изображения соответствующей эпохи и раскрытием судьбы легендарных личностей. Безусловно, жанр оды и эпической поэмы существенно укрепили свои позиции, расширили границы национально-художественного мышления. Возможно, между нартским эпосом и историко-героическими произведениями был значительный художественный пласт, исчезнувший в катаклизмах истории; возможно, где-то есть его следы – мысль, которая делает еще более актуальной идею планомерной подготовки специалистов по изучению художественного наследия народа.
Адыгский нартский эпос – выдающийся памятник духовной культуры народа
Сказания о богатырях-нартах считаются общим достоянием культуры коренных народов Северного Кавказа. В фольклоре адыгов это народный героический эпос, центральные сюжеты которого сохраняют прямую связь с древней мифологией. В нем представлены и простые по форме прозаические сказания наподобие мифологических сказок, и весьма совершенные в художественном плане лиро-эпические повествования, которые исполнялись под аккомпанемент музыкального инструмента и с хоровым сопровождением. Ядро эпоса образуют сюжеты о героических подвигах, поединках, борьбе с мифическими существами, добывании блага, необходимого обществу, введении новых гуманистических традиций и пр.
