A single ETHNO day has ended. So, a new one is coming soon!

The action “United ETHNoden, initiated by the Sverdlovsk Regional Interethnic Library with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Sverdlovsk region, was held in the Middle Urals for the fourth time. On August 15, a webinar was held at which the organizers of the action summed up the results of this bright event, thanked the participants and raffled off cash certificates among them, which can be spent on replenishing the book fund of libraries in the World of Books store.

From July 26 to August 4, 2024 (we expanded the time frame this year), 154 municipal libraries of the Sverdlovsk region actively participated in the regional action “United ETHNoden”, which is almost a third more than last year.

Libraries from forty-two municipalities (last year there were thirty-seven) throughout the week, to preserve, support and promote the cultures of the peoples living in the Sverdlovsk region, organized exciting and informative events online and offline, held book and photo exhibitions, various master classes, intellectual and outdoor games, folklore gatherings, loud readings of fairy tales of the peoples of the Urals, drawing contests and much more.

A single ethnic day came to both cities and very small settlements. The number of events in most libraries often reached up to five or even more.

So, seven events were held in the library of Verkhny Tagil, nine of them were organized in the Asbestos city district. This year, the city of Lesnoy became the absolute record holder in terms of the number of cultural events held within the framework of a Single Ethnic Day. Fourteen of them were held in the Pavel Petrovich Bazhov Central City Library.

It is noteworthy that the events of all our participants found their interested viewers, because there was no place for boredom and monotony. This can be judged by the photos and videos sent to us by the participants of the Unified Ethnic Day.

After all, we are essentially talking about the same thing – friendship, mutual understanding, and patriotism. It is very important to present information in such a way that it sounds new every time, so that we are listened to. And here, of course, there is a scattering of ideas, mountains of creativity

For example, the Dvurechenskaya rural library held a bibliodesant. In the village of Tavatui, they organized a wonderful holiday under the slogan “Cooking at home, eating in the library.” National dishes prepared in home kitchens in full accordance with ancient recipes helped to compare favorite dishes of different nations and exchange secrets of culinary skills. In the Aramilsky urban district, they entertained with games of the Aramilskaya Sloboda – Tatar, Bashkir, Russian, and Cossack. In the Lesnoy urban district, two pleasures were combined in the Bazhov Central State Library. The creative competition was called “Read, braid!”, children and adults competed in speed reading and braiding, took skill lessons from the city’s braid master.

National songs, costumes, legends and legends, Ural traditions, crafts and cuisine – all this was reflected in the rich and diverse program of the “United Ethnic Day”.

A library fashion show in national costumes pleased residents in the Butkinoozersk village library, a quest game on the stations “Soul of Russia – Russian Matryoshka” with national costumes was held in the central library of Verkhoturye. The city library number two of the city of Revda held an ethnographic ball.

In total, 304 events were held online and offline during the United Ethnic Day campaign. The most popular activity this year is holding fun smart games with children and adults. Not only different cultures, but also different generations have made friends in the game here. So, the Municipal Budget Cultural Institution “Library and Information Center of the Kushvinsky city district” held an interesting event, “Games of our parents”, which united whole families.

Sixty-six libraries played with their readers, at the same time suggesting new forms of leisure for children, often completely immersed in gadgets.

The next preference is quests, quizzes (quizzes), and informative conversations. Forty libraries tried to present information about national cultures to their participants and readers in this form, which is a favorite among young people.

Workshops and master classes are consistently popular among ethnic events. Forty-eight libraries in the Middle Urals have been amicably engaged in the manufacture of toys and dolls.

“Matryoshka is a Russian soul” was the name of the master class held in Nevyansk. In the number one library in Reftinsky, they taught how to make Martinique dolls. Hand-made mansi Akan play dolls brought home from the library delight young craftswomen in the village of Krasnoyarsk in the Serov City District. And they remind us of what an interesting holiday a Single ethnic Day gave them.

The webinar was attended by: Olga Mikhailovna Rudkovskaya, head of the central Children’s Library of Krasnoturinsk, Natalia Sergeevna Samofeeva, chief librarian of the Verh-Neuvinsky Library department of the Municipal Autonomous Cultural Institution Cultural Leisure Center; Irina Gennadyevna Priemshchikova, head of the Department of Methodological Work of the Krasnoufimsky District Library. They shared an interesting experience of Ethnoday in their libraries. There were also suggestions for improving the campaign.
