A new textbook on the Karelian language has been published in the Republic of Karelia

The textbook by Elena Ruppieva “Karelian language for Beginners” in the Livvikov dialect of the Karelian language, published by the Periodika Publishing House with the financial support of the Ministry of National and Regional Policy, will become an important resource for both Karelian language learners and teachers.

Each thematic block of the textbook contains a dictionary with vocabulary on the topic, grammatical material presented in a concise and accessible form in Russian, texts, samples of conversational speech, a set of various exercises, tasks for independent work of students. At the end of the textbook, the tables present the main grammatical aspects of the Karelian language and give tasks to test the knowledge of students. The textbook is colorfully illustrated by the artist Elena Agafonova.

To help students, the manual contains an audio application with texts and dialogues in Karelian for better mastering the phonetics of the Karelian language, as well as work on correct pronunciation, which is an undoubted advantage of this publication.

The textbooks will be transferred to educational organizations where the Karelian language is taught, as well as to public associations of the republic for use in language courses.
