Scientific discussions in the Ethnodom

A scientific discussion about the Karelian language took place at the Ethnodom, held as part of the Karelian Language Week event.

4th year student of the Institute of Philology Valeria Grafova gave a scientific report on infinitives in the Karelian language to 3rd year students of Baltic-Finnish philology and the Department of Theory and Methods of Primary Education of the Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology.

Valeria Grafova spoke about the formation and use of infinitives and gave examples. Together with the listeners, Valeria translated the constructions with infinitives presented on the slides into Russian and analyzed their methods of use in speech.
Students compared the forms of infinitives in the Karelian and Livvik dialects of the Karelian language proper, as well as in the Finnish language. In addition, the student spoke about her experience in scientific work and plans for the future.

After the report, a discussion took place about the frequency of use of certain infinitive forms in Karelian speech, about field expeditions, as well as about methods of scientific research and possible difficulties along the research path.
