Regional National Chuvash holiday “Akatuy” in the Ulyanovsk region

The event took place in the regional center on May 27. Governor Aleksey Russkikh greeted the participants and presented awards for merits in preserving the national culture and traditions in the region.

The Ulyanovsk region received guests from the republics of Mordovia, Tatarstan, Chuvashia, Bashkortostan, Saratov, Nizhny Novgorod, Penza, Samara, Leningrad and Moscow regions. The event was also attended by the Minister of Culture, Nationalities and Archives of the Republic of Chuvashia Svetlana Kalikova, Chairman of the Council of the Federal National-Cultural Autonomy of the Chuvash of Russia, Hero of Russia Nikolai Gavrilov.

The festive program included performances by amateur art groups, sports competitions and creative competitions, reflecting the peculiarities of the culture and traditions of the Chuvash people. Everyone was able to take part in folk games and fun, the traditional “dance of friendship”, try the traditional dish “Shartan” and the drink “Sara”, as well as get acquainted with the work of groups from Chuvashia and Tatarstan, municipalities of the Ulyanovsk and Samara regions.

15 municipalities of the Ulyanovsk region took part in the farmstead competition.

Also on this day, the Ulyanovsk Regional Business Incubator hosted an interregional scientific and practical conference “I.Ya. Yakovlev – yesterday, today, tomorrow. Love Russia. A spiritual testament for all the peoples of the Russian land. It was attended by public figures of the Chuvash Republic and the Ulyanovsk region, teachers and museum workers. The work of exhibitions of folk crafts and arts and crafts, as well as thematic exhibitions from the libraries of the region was organized.

This collaborative platform was established to enable the community of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (IDIL 2022–2032) to share events, activities, and resources. The content published on the platform is the responsibility of registered users and does not commit the Secretariat of the Decade (UNESCO) and/or the Members of the Global Task Force for Making a Decade of Action for Indigenous Languages. Please note that the platform has been inactive since February 2025 and no longer accepts new uploads. While work is underway to provide an updated solution, the Secretariat of IDIL 2022–2032 remains available for any inquiries at: indigenous.languages@unesco.org.
